NEW YORK, NY, January 11, 2012 – The International Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution (CPR Institute), a nonprofit think tank and alliance of global corporations, law firms, scholars, and public institutions dedicated to the principles of commercial conflict prevention and alternative dispute resolution (ADR), presented its 29th Annual Awards for Outstanding Scholarship in ADR on January 11, 2012 at a ceremony held at the New York office of Weil Gotshal LLP.
Outstanding Practical Achievement
This award is presented to companies, law firms, court systems, neutrals, and others in the use of innovative methods and systems to prevent, resolve, or manage disputes effectively. This year the award was presented to the ADR Center in Italy, co-founded by Giuseppe De Palo and Leonardo D’Urso.
Outstanding Original Professional Article
This award recognizes an article published by academics and other professionals that advances understanding in the field of ADR. This year the award was granted to Roselle L. Wissler for her work, “Court-Connected Settlement Procedures: Mediation and Judicial Settlement Conferences” 26 Ohio St. J. on D.R. 271-326 (2011).
Outstanding Original Short Article
This award recognizes a short article that advances understanding in the field of ADR. This year the award was presented to Stacie I. Strong for her work, “Collective Arbitration Under the DIS Supplementary Rules for Corporate Law Disputes: A European Form of Class Arbitration?” 29 ASA Bulletin 145 (2011).
Outstanding Original Student Article
This award recognizes an article or paper written by a student that was focused on events or issues in the field of ADR. This year the Outstanding Original Student Article award was granted to two submissions; Michael Diamond for his work, “’Energized’ Negotiations: Mediating Disputes Over the Siting of Interstate Electronic Transmission Lines” 26 Ohio St. J. on D. R. 1, 217 (2011), and Nate Mealy for his work, “Mediation’s Potential Role in International Cultural Property Disputes” 26 Ohio St. J. on D.R. 1, 169 (2011).
Outstanding Book
This award recognizes a published book that advances understanding in the field of ADR. This year the award was presented to Douglas E. Noll, author of Elusive Peace: How Modern Diplomatic Strategies Could Better Resolve World Conflicts, Prometheus Books, Amherst, NY (2011).
Outstanding Electronic Media About ADR
This award is presented to a company, group, or individual that has produced exceptional electronic media that was focused on the field of ADR. This year the award was granted to Kluwer Arbitration Blog, http://Kluwerarbitrationblog.com/.
