Ellen Parker is a trusted and uniquely capable attorney who served as Principal and Associate General Counsel for KPMG. In that role Ellen was responsible for handling major litigations and significant regulatory investigations for the firm. In addition to being a top-notch litigator, Ellen’s skills and value stretch far beyond the courtroom. Throughout her career, she employed her sharp legal mind, business acumen, and principled leadership to address complex challenges and drive culture change. KMPG’s Board, Human Resources department, and affinity groups looked to Ellen for guidance on necessary system changes and best practices. She has served as a natural and enthusiastic mentor and educator to many peers and junior attorneys, and she is known for handling highly sensitive matters with professionalism and integrity.
Ellen joined KPMG in 2003 as Assistant General Counsel and was named Principal in 2006. A testament to Ellen’s success is her record of overseeing the defense for numerous regulatory and government investigations that resulted in no enforcement action against the firm or its professionals. She also led a 30-attorney legal team through an arduous, 7-year process of defeating class certification in a nationwide gender discrimination suit against KPMG. As she immersed herself in that case, Ellen established herself as the firm’s go-to advisor on all internal and external communications regarding gender-related issues and initiatives. Her ability to deftly handle such topics spurred ongoing intentionality and self-reflection in KPMG’s leadership, and she retired in 2019 confident that the firm had established best-in-class policies, standards, and an overall mind-set on gender-related issues.
Prior to joining KPMG, Ellen served as the General Counsel and Vice President of Business & Legal Affairs at MTI/The Image Group, Inc., a multi-media entertainment company in New York City, and as General Counsel and Secretary for Care Connexions, Inc., an innovative healthcare monitoring and communications company. In these roles Ellen had exposure to a wide range of industries and gained foundational experience in litigation as well as managing business and legal affairs.
A subject matter expert in conflict resolution, Ellen co-chairs the American Bar Association’s Dispute Resolution Section Task Force on Innovative Conflict Prevention Techniques. She also co-chaired the CPR Council, the advisory body for the International Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution. Beyond her professional affiliations, Ellen is a highly engaged member of her community, currently serving as the Board Chair for Urban Word NYC, a non-profit organization that champions the voices of New York City youth by providing platforms for critical literacy, youth development, and leadership.
Ellen earned a Bachelor’s of Science in accounting from Ithaca College and her Juris Doctorate from New York University’s School of Law. She has been married for thirty-two years and has two grown children.
