Happy Mediation Settlement Day! Today's the Day for Events Nationwide and Internationally (Web)
October 16, 2008
CPR: International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution is aboard for its seventh year as a sponsoring organization of New York state’s Mediation Settlement Day, organized by dozens of mediation-using organizations in the public, private and nonprofit worlds.
The programs have encouraged mediation use, and raised awareness about the variety of mediation programs in courts and agencies, since 2001. In New York, the festivities have been expanded to a full month of programs.
There’s still plenty of time to get in on events today both nationally and internationally, in person and online. For events worldwide, see the listing at sponsor Association for Conflict Resolution’s site here.
Locally, the big Mediation Settlement Day reception and program will be this Monday, Oct. 20, the New York County Lawyers' Association, 14 Vesey Street between Church St. and Broadway, in New York City. The festivities will begin with an open house at 5:30 p.m. for networking with sponsoring organizations, and a presentation at 7:00 p.m. recognizing three community mediators as “Frontline Champions.” The 2008 Honorary Chairman is Spencer H. Lewis Jr., director of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in New York, who will keynote.
Organizing for the New York Mediation Settlement Day is led this year by Finra, the regulatory arm of the NASD and the New York Stock Exchange, and the New York state court system. Finra has set up a web page for Monday’s event here.
