CPR Launches First-Ever General Counsel Panel of Mediators & Arbitrators
April 12, 2006Includes Former General Counsel from Such Companies as Chevron Corporation, Delta Airlines, and Microsoft Corporation
The International Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution announced the formation of a powerful new panel of mediators and arbitrators composed of current and former general counsel from Fortune 1000 corporations. The formal announcement was made on April 11, 2006 at a Corporate Counsel Roundtable on Trends in Litigation and ADR, under the auspices of CPR Institute.
“Having a general counsel as a neutral brings a unique perspective on the dynamics of business activities and how and why corporate management reaches decisions,” stated P. D. Villarreal, Vice President and Associate General Counsel-Litigation and Conflict Management, Schering-Plough Corporation, and featured speaker at the CPR Corporate Counsel Roundtable. “With this unique perspective, general counsel, acting as neutrals, can cut through the legalese and facilitate the evaluation of many of the issues that could be costly and time-consuming in a dispute.”
The inclusion of a General Counsel Panel is an important addition to The CPR 1,000 – 1,000 of the highest quality arbitrators and mediators, with pecializations in over 17 practice areas and industries. Not only do they have a benchmark against which to analyze and judge the facts presented in reaching a fair and impartial determination, but their unique professional experience is particularly helpful during discovery, assessing witnesses and testimony, and evaluating positions.
“We created the Panel with the help of an august advisory group of current corporate counsel and their firms based upon needs expressed to us by many of our colleagues,” said Neal Blacker, CPR’s Senior Vice President Dispute Resolution Services. “With a track record of successful complex business decisions, the members of our Panel are able to look beneath the surface of the claims and defenses to ferret out the real reason behind certain corporate acts, and thus find the best solutions for all parties – quickly and economically.”
CPR Institute provides its roster of neutrals free of charge to CPR Members and will assist non-members with neutral selection from its panels for a fee.
