NEW YORK, NY, May 7, 2009 – CPR Institute today announced the launch of its young and international “YADR” (Young Attorneys in Alternative Dispute Resolution) Group. YADR is a commercial conflict resolution networking and professional development group for practicing lawyers 45 years old and younger.
The purpose of the group is to expose young attorneys to in-house counsel in the international ADR practice area. Through periodic seminars and networking events, participants will gain an insider's look at the role of ADR systems and practices in corporations and multi-national organizations. They will have an opportunity to meet and collaborate with in-house counsel and experts in the ADR field to analyze and hone techniques, processes, and systems to improve commercial conflict resolution efforts around the globe.
Lorraine M. Brennan, Senior Vice President of Programs & International for the CPR Institute, said “CPR is excited to be launching the YADR group, offering informational programs and networking opportunities to an often untapped or underserviced population in the field of ADR. We are pleased at the overwhelmingly positive response to the group and are looking forward to planning future programs which draw a diverse audience who are interested in learning from and meeting leaders in the field.”
Dana MacGrath, Senior Counsel at Allen & Overy LLP and Chair of the YADR Group, added, “Allen & Overy is thrilled to be a part of this important initiative and is confident that the YADR group and its activities will serve as a platform that provides unique opportunities for young attorneys to expand their knowledge about ADR.”
The YADR Group’s inaugural event will take place on Tuesday, June 2 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the New York City offices of Allen & Overy. Entitled “Tips from the Trenches in a Tough Economy: Insights from In-House Counsel About Today's Priorities and What That Means for Young Attorneys Going Forward,” the event will include a panel discussion moderated by Ms. MacGrath and will feature speakers: Michelle H. Browdy, Vice President and Assistant General Counsel, IBM Corporation; Melanie Lewis, Director, Solutions, Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc.; Duncan MacKay, Deputy General Counsel, Northeast Utilities; and Beth Trent, Legal Director, Schering-Plough Corporation (invited).
