CPR Announces New Chairman, Vice Chairman of Board Of Directors

New York, NY – March 3, 2014: The International Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution (CPR), the leading independent non-profit organization whose mission is to help global businesses and their lawyers resolve complex commercial disputes more cost effectively and efficiently, announced that John S. Kiernan, Partner at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, has been appointed Chairman of its elite Board of Directors. Barbara Daniele, Senior Vice President & General Counsel of GE Capital, Americas, will succeed Kiernan as Vice Chairman of the Board.

Kiernan has been Co-Chair of the Litigation Department at Debevoise & Plimpton since 2002 and Chair of its Ethics Committee since 1994. His representations have embraced a broad range of commercial disputes and internal investigations, including disputes relating to contracts, purchases and sales of businesses, corporate governance, derivative and class action claims, international treaties, securities claims, patents and other intellectual property, consumer fraud, accountant liability and mass torts.

Kiernan succeeds the previous CPR Chairman, the Honorable William H. Webster, the former Director of the CIA and FBI, former U.S. Court of Appeals and U.S. District Judge, and consulting partner at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP.  Kiernan served as Vice Chairman of the Board since 2011 and as a member of CPR’s Board of Directors since 2007.

At G.E. Capital, Ms. Daniele is responsible for all significant litigations involving G.E. Commercial Finance, supervision and negotiation of complex class actions and response to investigations commenced by state and federal regulators. She has been a long-term member of CPR’s Board of Directors and is the Chair of CPR’s International Committee.
