Inter-Insurer Dispute Resolution Commitment for Disputes Relating to the September 11, 2001, Disaster

The events of September 11 gave rise to an enormous number of claims of all kinds, aggregating billions of dollars. Many of these claims will involve more than one insurance company - in subrogation, excess, or otherwise. The intention of this Commitment is to address any problems between insurance companies quickly, inexpensively, and without court rulings that might have long-lasting impact on the industry.

To accomplish these goals, each signing company has agreed that, when a dispute covered by the Commitment arises with another signing company and is not settled promptly in the normal course of business, the signing companies will initiate a Procedure that involves formal negotiation and, if needed, mediation to resolve the problem.
