Program Description:
The modern disputes lawyer is expected to do more than analyze legal issues. Clients look to their advisers to help them make difficult decisions under conditions of uncertainty, balancing legal, commercial, financial, and reputational considerations.
This panel brings together experienced disputes practitioners and decision analysis specialists to discuss how lawyers can develop more effective approaches to identifying, quantifying, and communicating risk. Drawing on experience across the disputes lifecycle, panelists will share practical methods for:
- structuring decisions,
- evaluating alternative courses of action,
- confronting uncertainty, and
- translating complex legal analysis into business-focused advice that supports executive decision-making.
Focused on practical lawyering skills, the program will provide techniques for client counseling, risk communication, and strategic decision-making that attorneys can apply when advising clients and assessing options in complex disputes.

CPR is a non-profit organization. Under financial hardship guidelines, at its discretion, CPR may waive the fee for attorneys who demonstrate that they are not currently employed (not retirees). CPR may also provide a special discounted price to attorneys, full time judges and administrative law judges practicing in the nonprofit and public sectors full time.
