Protecting Privilege in the Age of AI: Practical Strategies for European Counsel

Program Description

Legal professional privilege is one of the legal profession's most fundamental protections. Yet as lawyers increasingly rely on AI for research, drafting, investigations, and compliance activities, new questions are emerging about confidentiality, disclosure risk, and the protection of privileged communications.

Hosted by Three Crowns and presented by CPR Institute's European Advisory Board, this program will explore how AI is reshaping privilege analysis across jurisdictions, with a particular focus on European perspectives and cross-border matters. Panelists will discuss emerging legal developments, practical safeguards, and strategies for law firms and legal departments seeking to embrace AI while maintaining client trust and confidentiality.

Why Attend?

  • Gain practical insights into how AI may affect legal professional privilege and confidentiality.
  • Understand emerging European and U.S. approaches to privilege in an AI-enabled environment.
  • Learn best practices for managing risk when using AI tools in legal work.
  • Explore the implications for investigations, disputes, compliance, and cross-border matters.
  • Hear from leading practitioners navigating these challenges in real time.

As AI adoption accelerates, protecting privilege is becoming a strategic priority for every legal team. Join fellow practitioners for a timely discussion on how to harness AI's benefits while safeguarding one of the profession's most essential protections.

Hosted by CPR member firm, Three Crowns LLP - represented on the European Advisory Board by Agustín García Sanz, Partner (Madrid)

CPR IN EUROPE

The CPR Institute's European presence dates from the early 1990s when a group of corporate and legal leaders from Europe was convened to form the CPR European Advisory Committee. Under the leadership of Hans Peter Frick, former General Counsel of Nestlé, the group organized the First European Congress on ADR in 2004, followed by four annual conferences around Europe. The European Advisory Committee worked on a number of other initiatives including building CPR’s Panel of Neutrals in Europe; advising the European Commission on its Directive on Mediation and its Code of Ethics for Mediators; and drafting the CPR Reinsurance Industry Protocol.

Today, CPR continues to serve as a leading independent resource in Europe helping businesses and their legal advisers, whether in-house or external counsel, prevent and resolve commercial disputes more efficiently and cost-effectively.

CPR carries out its mission in Europe with the help of its European Advisory Board (EAB), a body composed of CPR member representatives based throughout Europe who are invited to serve three-year terms on the EAB. Within the EAB, representatives from leading European companies and law firms work collaboratively together to provide strategic direction to CPR’s activities in the region. The EAB develops resources, shares knowledge and best practices, and networks with respect to dispute prevention and resolution. The EAB has produced resources including:

In addition to several meetings of the board per year, the EAB also organizes events for the public throughout Europe. European Advisory Board Co-Chairs are Vanessa Alarcon Duvanel (King & Spalding) and Torsten Bartsch (formerly with Caterpillar), Secretary is Sara Little (Orrick), and CPR Staff Liaison is Knar Nahikian, Vice President - Global Initiatives.
